George Huntington Collection

  • Institution: Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History

  • Description: Comprised of over 3600 individuals with dates of death from 1892 to 1920. Age, sex, nationality, and cause of death are known. All individuals are either European immigrants or New York City residents. Many skeletons are incomplete due to their origin as dissection cadavers.

Hamann-Todd Osteological Collection

  • Description: Contains over 3000 skeletons. Documentation is unknown.

Hamilton County Forensic Center Donated Collection

  • Institution: Hamilton County Forensic Center
  • Location: Chattanooga, TN
  • Description: Mainly composed of donated completed skeletons along with some forensic cases. As of 2005 the collection contained 67 identified individuals.

J.C.B. Grant Collection

  • Institution: Department of Anthropology, University of Toronto
  • Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada
  • Description: Consists of 202 individuals who died and were received by the university between 1928 and the early 1950s. Most of the individuals are male and aged 40 years or older. Many were transients, migrant workers, or recent immigrants at time of death. All but one are of European ancestry. Demographic information consists of sex, age at death, and cause of death.

Maxwell Museum Documented Skeletal Collection

  • Institution: Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, University of New Mexico
  • Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA
  • Description: Contains 257 individuals as of February 2008, although only 207 of those individuals are positively identified. All but one of the individuals were residents of New Mexico. Ages at death range from fetal to over 80 years. The amount of documentation varies depending on the source of the remains, but typically includes age, sex, and ancestry.

Physical Anthropology Collection Archaeology Series

  • Institution: Department of Anthropology, National Museum of Natural History

  • Description: Contains numerous skeletal remains recovered from archaeological excavations. The majority (45%) originates from North America while the remainder consists of remains from South America (20%), Asia (15%), Africa (10%), and Europe (5%).

Robert J. Terry Anatomical Skeletal Collection

  • Description: This collection consists of 1728 individuals (461 white males, 546 black males, 323 white females, 392 black females, 5 Asian males, and 1 individual of unknown origin) with dates of birth ranging from 1822 to 1943 and ages at death ranging from 16 to 102 years. Demographic information includes age, sex, ancestry, cause of death, and pathological conditions. Anthropometric measurements, cadaver photographs, dental charts, death masks, and hair samples are available for some individuals.

  • Description: This collection is composed of around 1100 individuals that originally served as cadavers for anatomy classes at Stanford University Medical School. Birth dates range from the mid to late 1800s.

  • Description: Consists of approximately 700 individuals of mainly African ancestry living from the mid-19th century to the mid-20th century.

  • Description: Composed of over 900 specimens from known individuals gathered from East Tennessee Medical Examiner autopsies. The majority of the specimens are either hyoids, clavicles, or portions of crania with gunshot wounds.
